Spain's agricultural sector faces protests over rising fuel costs
Spanish agricultural and fishing sectors are facing severe economic pressure due to rising fuel and fertilizer costs. Agricultural diesel prices have climbed to approximately 1.65 euros per liter, a nearly 50% increase compared to last year. In the Balearic Islands, the impact is widespread. Inflation reached 4.4% in August, and fishermen in Andratx report monthly income losses of roughly 400 euros due to fuel costs. The People's Party (PP) has called for emergency measures, including a request to the EU to allow subsidies covering up to 70% of increased production costs for fuels and fertilizers.
Government ministers are meeting with industry representatives to discuss mitigation strategies for the effects of geopolitical instability on production costs.
