Balearic Islands leads Spain in tax payments via Bizum

The Balearic Islands have become a pioneer in Spain for using Bizum as a method for tax payments. Since the Tax Agency of the Balearic Islands (ATIB) implemented the system on August 21, 2023, there have been 188,240 operations totaling over 22.2 million euros as of August 7, 2026.

The number of transactions has seen consistent annual growth, rising from 18,298 in the initial months of 2023 to 71,345 in 2025. By early August 2026, the region had already recorded 51,386 operations, representing approximately 72% of the previous year's total volume.

Users can pay debts up to 1,500 euros per tax or debt through the ATIB portal, electronic office, or mobile applications. The system covers various local taxes, public organism fees, vehicle transfers, and sustainable tourism taxes. Following this success, the region of Aragon has announced plans to extend this digital payment method to all its taxes during the first half of 2027.
