Balearic Islands political parties prepare for November elections

Political tensions are rising in the Balearic Islands ahead of the November 29 elections. The PSIB has announced Francina Armengol, the President of the Congress, as its candidate, describing her as a strong leader capable of facing the current historical moment. The party intends to center its campaign on housing, contrasting its model against 'vulture funds' and proposing laws to allow municipalities to cap rental prices in high-pressure zones.

In contrast, the PP has expressed optimism for the upcoming campaign, with spokesperson Sebastià Sagreras criticizing Pedro Sánchez’s national government for failing to govern effectively and neglecting the Balearic Islands' specific needs, such as the special tax regime and financing systems. The PP also highlighted the recent collapse of two housing decrees as a sign of political instability.

Separately, local social issues continue to spark friction. In the Parlament, health officials defended their management of medical waiting lists in Ibiza and Formentera against accusations of lack of transparency and inefficiency. Meanwhile, over one hundred workers from 'escoletes' (early childhood centers) protested before the Parlament, demanding better labor conditions and criticizing the government's recent educational decrees.
