Balearic Islands report meteotsunamis and legislative changes in Menorca
The Balearic Islands are experiencing various regional developments. In Mallorca, ports in Andratx and Sóller recorded rissagas, also known as meteotsunamis, caused by atmospheric pressure variations. An alert remains active for Ciutadella, Menorca, where sea level oscillations of up to 1.2 meters are possible.
In Menorca, the regional government is set to remove an article from the Biosphere Reserve Law that would have allowed the Consell de Menorca to manage its own water resources. This change occurs as the island faces record-low aquifer levels and water consumption significantly exceeding hydrological plans.
Cultural and local events are also underway. Ferreries is celebrating the Sant Bartomeu festivities, which included a traditional parade and a tiebreak tennis tournament at the Club Tennis Ferreries. Additionally, Es Migjorn Gran recently held the tenth edition of the Gran Migjornale, an art event where local residents open their homes to showcase works by various artists.
