Balearic Islands schools implement models to reduce back-to-school costs

Educational institutions in the Balearic Islands are implementing successful models to reduce the rising costs of back-to-school supplies for families. Two notable examples include CEIP Maria Antònia Salvà in Palma and IES Sant Marçal in Marratxí.

At CEIP Maria Antònia Salvà, a textbook recycling program has seen 100% participation from families in recent years. This initiative allows families to pay between 20 and 25 euros for books. The school maintains a book bank that is only updated when curricula change, ensuring the collection remains in good condition. The school is one of 223 centers in the Balearic Islands participating in the Conselleria d’Educació program to fund the reuse of books and the purchase of materials.

Regarding school supplies, the school follows maximum fees established by the regional government, set at 53 euros for infant education and 38 euros for primary education. These funds are managed by the teaching staff to purchase all necessary materials for students throughout the academic year.
