Balestrate boat storage facility seized over safety and environmental violations

Authorities in Balestrate, Italy, have seized a boat storage and marine engine repair facility following an inspection by the Carabinieri and environmental forestry units. The investigation revealed severe regulatory non-compliance, including the lack of a Single Environmental Authorization (AUA) required for managing atmospheric emissions and industrial wastewater from nautical operations.

In addition to environmental violations, inspectors identified significant workplace safety omissions. The company failed to appoint a Prevention and Protection Service Manager (RSPP) or a competent physician, lacked a Risk Assessment Document (DVR), and did not subject employees to mandatory medical examinations. Furthermore, the facility lacked electrical system conformity certifications and had installed an unauthorized video surveillance system.

The 66-year-old owner, who is known to law enforcement, has been reported to the judicial authorities. Administrative sanctions and fines totaling approximately 19,000 euros were also imposed.
