Bali and Timor-Leste discuss potential export of 10,000 cattle
Bali Governor Wayan Koster and a delegation from Timor-Leste, led by State Secretary for Livestock José Vieira de Araújo, met in Denpasar to discuss expanding livestock cooperation. A central component of the discussions is a proposal to export up to 10,000 head of Bali cattle to Timor-Leste to bolster the nation's food security and livestock population.
Governor Koster noted that the proposed figure requires further technical verification, including data collection on available stock, age, sex, and health status to ensure the plan does not negatively impact local farmers or the regional cattle population. Successful implementation will depend on meeting strict regulatory requirements, including animal health protocols, quarantine clearances, transportation logistics, and international trade approvals between the two governments.
Beyond cattle exports, the two parties explored broader agricultural collaborations, such as farmer training, breeding technology exchanges, and efforts to enhance genetic quality to support Timor-Leste's long-term agricultural development.
