Bali: Australian tourist robbed of gold chains by motorcyclist

A 68-year-old Australian tourist was robbed of two gold chains worth between $14,400 and $17,000 while walking with his wife in Legian, Bali. The incident occurred on the evening of August 21 or 22 near Werkudara Street.

CCTV footage shows a motorcyclist, reportedly wearing a jacket similar to an online ride-hailing uniform, approaching the couple and violently snatching the necklaces—weighing 25 grams and 50 grams—before speeding away. The victim attempted to pursue the thief but was unsuccessful.

Denpasar Police spokesperson Captain I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya confirmed that an investigation is underway. Authorities are currently analyzing surveillance footage and sweeping the area to identify and locate the perpetrator.
