Bali City Sand Sculpture Exhibition damaged by heavy rain

Heavy rainfall caused by low-pressure systems and southwest winds has damaged four sand sculptures at the 2026 Bali City Sand Sculpture Exhibition in New Taipei City. Out of the 16 works on display, the sculptures titled ‘Lazy Water Fun’, ‘Cool Summer’, ‘Deep Sea Little Surprise’, and ‘Big Gathering of Partners’ suffered structural and line damage due to erosion.

The New Taipei City Water Resources Bureau’s High Beach Engineering Management Office stated that the exhibition remains open to the public. Maintenance teams have conducted preliminary inspections and will begin repairs once weather conditions and sand moisture levels stabilize. Officials noted that repairs cannot be rushed, as they require a rain-free environment and stable sand structures to ensure quality and safety.

Visitors are advised to follow on-site guidance, avoid crossing fences near work zones, and be cautious of slippery paths along the riverbank. The bureau will continue to monitor weather patterns, including the movement of Typhoon Sandel, to adjust maintenance schedules accordingly.
