Bali designates six low-emission zones under new green program
Bali Governor Wayan Koster has officially designated six low-emission zones under the ‘Kerthi Bhumi Satwika’ program to advance the island’s sustainable development and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The initiative aims to align spatial planning with clean energy adoption and environmental protection.
The six designated areas include Ubud, which focuses on cultural and environmental tourism; the Nusa Penida Islands, emphasizing coastal and island ecosystem preservation; and the tourism hubs of Nusa Dua, Kuta, and Sanur. Additionally, the Gajah Mada Cultural Heritage Area in Denpasar has been included to integrate historical preservation with sustainable urban growth.
The program is structured around five strategic pillars: Green Energy, Green Transportation, Green Ecosystems, Green Tourism Industry, and Green Society. The provincial government is collaborating with the local governments of Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Klungkung to implement these policies through integrated cross-sectoral coordination.
