Bali fuel shortages disrupt supply chain and local transport
Bali is experiencing significant fuel shortages following a disruption in its supply chain. The crisis was triggered by a mechanical anchor failure on a tanker ship carrying 22 million litres of diesel, which delayed offloading at a major port in Denpasar.
The shortage has impacted tourist hubs such as Denpasar and Badung, causing long queues at petrol stations and disrupting transportation services for locals and tourists. Motorists have struggled to find subsidized Pertalite petrol, leading to traffic delays and industry-wide disruptions.
In response, Governor I Wayan Koster has implemented measures to mitigate the impact, including ordering government employees to work from home for three days and transitioning schools and universities to online learning for the same period.
