Bali fuel shortages trigger long queues as Pertamina accelerates distribution

Bali is experiencing significant fuel shortages, particularly for subsidized Pertalite, leading to long vehicle queues and traffic congestion in areas like Denpasar, Badung, and Jembrana. Pertamina CEO Simon Aloysius Mantiri apologized for the disruption, attributing the delay to technical issues with a tanker ship's anchor during the unloading process, alongside a surge in demand.

To resolve the crisis, Pertamina Patra Niaga has implemented 24-hour supply operations and is prioritizing deliveries to critical gas stations. Three major fuel shipments totaling 26,200 kiloliters are scheduled for mid-October to replenish stocks. Governor Wayan Koster has reassured the public that fuel reserves at the Manggis and Sanggaran depots remain sufficient and expects distribution to normalize within one to two days.

National Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia noted that while local distribution in Bali faced hurdles, national fuel stocks remain secure for approximately 16 to 18 days. Meanwhile, the Ombudsman has noted that fuel distribution issues, including potential misuse of subsidized fuel, have been reported in 25 provinces across Indonesia.
