Bali Governor Wayan Koster backs anti‑corruption crackdown on immigration services

Bali Governor Wayan Koster said improving immigration and other public services is essential for the island’s tourism reputation. Speaking at a public‑service bazaar and later at the 80th Bhayangkara Day ceremony, he praised the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) sting operation that targeted alleged extortion in the processing of foreign residence permits.

The KPK raid in early July arrested 17 people – eight civil servants and nine private parties – including a deputy minister of immigration. Investigators say the suspects collected at least Rp 145.5 billion (about US $9 million) in illegal fees between 2022 and 2026, with possible links to up to Rp 357 billion (≈US $26 million). Koster said the crackdown will help the immigration office meet international standards and protect Bali’s image as a global tourist destination.

He emphasized that corruption must not affect tourist services and urged sustained follow‑up to ensure transparent, accountable public administration.
