Riau police dismantle driver's license forgery syndicate

Police in Siak, Riau, have dismantled a syndicate involved in producing counterfeit driver's licenses (SIM). The operation, uncovered in September 2026, led to the arrest of eight suspects and the seizure of approximately 500 forged documents.

The syndicate operated by editing personal data and printing it onto cards, offering the illegal documents via WhatsApp and Facebook marketplaces. Prices for these fraudulent licenses ranged from Rp550,000 to Rp1.7 million.

Authorities emphasize that only the Indonesian National Police (Polri) have the legal mandate to issue driver's licenses. Citizens are advised to verify their documents by ensuring they were obtained through official police procedures and checking that all personal data matches their identity cards.
