Bali promotes traditional textiles for global fashion markets

Efforts are underway to elevate Balinese traditional textiles, known as Wastra Bali, from cultural heritage to a global creative economy force. Ny. Putri Koster, Chair of Dekranasda Bali, introduced the “Satu Jiwa, Tiga Rupa” (One Soul, Three Forms) concept. This strategy integrates art, business, and cultural politics to promote the textiles, emphasizing that their value lies in the spiritual identity and philosophy embedded in the motifs, which distinguishes them from factory-made fabrics.

In Jakarta, the preservation of Indonesian textiles is highlighted by the “Menjaga Warisan untuk Masa Depan” (Preserving Heritage for the Future) exhibition at the Museum Tekstil. The exhibition showcases a diverse range of Nusantara fabrics and rare traditional textile collections, offering public educational opportunities regarding Indonesian weaving and batik traditions.
