Bali truck driver dies after being burned by employer

I Gede Selamet (21), a truck driver from Karangasem, Bali, has died at RSUP Prof Ngoerah hospital after suffering severe burns inflicted by his employer. The incident occurred in Desa Muncan following a dispute over unpaid work deposits.

The victim had reportedly accumulated debts totaling approximately Rp8.5 million due to illness-related work absences. During a confrontation, the employer allegedly doused Selamet in fuel and set him on fire.

Because the injuries resulted from a criminal act, medical expenses were not covered by BPJS Kesehatan. By the time of his death, medical bills had reached Rp88 million. Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka reportedly contributed Rp25 million to the hospital to assist with the mounting costs.
