Balikpapan strengthens economic resilience and food security

Balikpapan Mayor Rahmad Mas'ud is pushing for increased economic resilience and food security through regional cooperation and strategic business development.

In a meeting with the Balikpapan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Mas'ud urged the organization to move beyond internal consolidation and implement concrete programs that support local businesses. He emphasized the need for entrepreneurs to adopt new technologies, improve product standards, and collaborate with micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to strengthen the local business ecosystem.

Simultaneously, the Balikpapan City Government has entered into a formal cooperation agreement with the Bulukumba Regency government to secure food supplies. This partnership aims to stabilize commodity distribution and control inflation in Balikpapan, which relies on external regions for food due to limited agricultural land. Bulukumba, acting as a producer, will expand its market reach into Kalimantan through this arrangement.
