Balkan AI breakthroughs: Inkling model launch and Vodafone Albania pilot

Thinking Machines Lab, founded by Mira Murati, unveiled Inkling, a multimodal artificial‑intelligence model with roughly one trillion parameters. Released as an open‑source system, Inkling combines text, image, audio and video processing within a single reasoning architecture and uses a mixture‑of‑experts approach to activate only the necessary sub‑models for each query.

In Albania, Vodafone began testing a new “Physical AI” system that integrates artificial intelligence with robotics to autonomously reposition 4G and 5G antennas. The pilot uses AI‑driven sensors to monitor user traffic and robot‑controlled arms that can rotate and tilt antennas in real time, aiming to improve network performance without manual engineering intervention.

Both developments illustrate a shift toward more adaptive, efficient AI applications across the Balkans, from large‑scale multimedia models to autonomous telecom infrastructure.
