Albania's SPAK reports surge in investigations, 30 officials under probe

Klodian Braho, head of Albania's Special Anti‑Corruption Structure (SPAK), presented the agency's 2025 annual report to the Committee on Laws. The report shows SPAK investigated 871 criminal procedures, including 294 new cases – a 4.9 % increase over the previous year – and completed 216 investigations.

In the field of corruption, SPAK examined 30 current and former officials; 18 have been sent to trial and 10 former officials were convicted. Braho stressed that the State Police remains an “indispensable partner” in combating crime and called for greater operational independence for SPAK. He also highlighted the growing complexity of organized crime, noting increased use of sophisticated structures, encrypted communications, and money‑laundering activities, with Albania continuing to serve as a transit point for illicit operations.
