Balkan architectural anomalies spark safety concerns and viral attention
Unusual architectural structures in the Balkan region have gained significant attention on social media, sparking discussions regarding both humor and public safety.
In Split, a residential building on Vukovarska Street became a viral topic due to a balcony featuring only two thin metal rods instead of a standard railing or concrete solution. While many users shared the image through memes, others raised concerns regarding the safety of the structure for children and the elderly.
In Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, a resident named Safet Agović constructed a house-like structure with walls and a pitched roof on top of a multi-story building in the Jalija neighborhood. Reports indicate the construction has existed for approximately eight years. Despite urbanism services rejecting building permit requests twice and inspections ordering the structure's demolition, the house remains standing. Residents have expressed concerns over the added weight on the building's construction and the difficulty of accessing the roof for routine maintenance.
