Balkan cities honor women painters with Sarajevo mural for Mica Todorović and Zadar exhibition by Mirta Boban

A new mural honoring pioneering Bosnian‑Herzegovinian painter Mica Todorović was painted on Dugi sokak near the Careva džamija in Sarajevo. The work, created by the artists of the Obojena Klapa collective, depicts Todorović’s portrait and elements inspired by her paintings. It is part of the EU‑funded HERstory project, which aims to raise awareness of significant women figures through urban culture.

In Zadar, Croatian painter Mirta Boban opened her latest solo show “Krv, sunce i slatkiši” at Kapetanova kula. The exhibition presents works born from personal trauma, using intuitive colour and symbolism to explore female experience, societal taboos and healing. Boban describes the series as a therapeutic gesture, inviting viewers to find their own meanings in the imagery of blood, sun and sweets.
