Montenegro reports significant drop in public debt-to-GDP ratio

Montenegrin officials from the Europe Now Movement (PES) have highlighted significant shifts in the country's fiscal landscape. MP Branka Marković reported a historical decrease in the public debt-to-GDP ratio by approximately 46 percentage points, attributing this to responsible fiscal policies, tourism recovery, and foreign investment.

Marković noted that this reduction creates more space for investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and education. She also referenced Prime Minister Milojko Spajić’s plan to implement a new wage model starting in January 2027, which aims to set minimum net salaries between 1,000 and 1,400 euros depending on education levels.

In a separate political critique, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Boris Pejović accused the opposition of inconsistent rhetoric. He claimed that while the opposition previously warned of financial collapse due to economic reforms like ‘Europe Now 2’, they have since shifted to demanding further increases in pensions and social benefits.
