Balkan geopolitics: Analysis of the ‘Serbian World’ project

A new documentary by BGNES, titled ‘The Creeping Borders of the Serbian World’, examines how the historical nationalist concept of ‘Greater Serbia’ has been adapted to the modern geopolitical landscape of the Balkans.

Security experts and historians suggest that the traditional goal of territorial expansion has shifted from overt military confrontation to a hybrid warfare model. This contemporary approach utilizes intelligence structures, political influence, and activities within the ‘gray zone’ to destabilize neighboring sovereign states. The film traces the ideological continuity from the 19th-century ‘Načertanije’ of Ilija Garašanin and the policies of Slobodan Milošević to the current ‘Serbian World’ concept.

Analysts highlight the role of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, noting the transition from the ultra-nationalist rhetoric of the 1990s to a modern strategy framed through regional cooperation and European integration.
