Balkan judicial investigations face scrutiny over transparency and procedural gaps

In Montenegro, concerns have been raised regarding the investigation into the August 2022 mass shooting in Cetinje. During a memorial gathering, Vesna Pejović, a victim's mother, alleged that the perpetrator, Vuk Borilović, had stayed at the Cetinje Monastery prior to the killings. Documents suggest that the police and prosecution investigation failed to interview clergy from the Church of Serbia or review surveillance footage from the monastery.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Bijeljina is facing criticism over its handling of information regarding an investigation into the Srebrenica Memorial Center. While the prosecutor's office provided detailed information to certain media outlets regarding the center's operations, journalists from other outlets, such as BHRT, reported being denied promised responses. Critics argue this demonstrates selective transparency in matters of significant public interest.
