Balkan Romaniaty Congress to feature research on Istro-Romanian communities
The Balkan Romaniaty Congress will take place on November 4 in Bucharest, bringing together leaders from historical Romanian organizations in Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, and North Macedonia.
During the event, the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) will launch several research volumes. A primary focus is the book ‘Istro-Romanian Localities in Croatia’, authored by Dorin Lozovanu, Călin Pantea, and Petar Radosavljević. This work documents the history, language, and current status of Istro-Romanian communities in the Istrian Peninsula and on Krk island, addressing the threat of language extinction.
Other presentations include ethnological visual albums regarding Romanians in the Vidin region of Bulgaria and Megleno-Romanians in the Gheghelia commune of North Macedonia. The congress also features an exhibition titled ‘Balkan Periplu regarding the Megleno-Romanians in Greece and North Macedonia and the Istro-Romanians in Croatia’.
