Balkan war crime anniversaries marked in Raštani and Grubori

Commemorations are being held for victims of wartime atrocities in the Balkans. In Raštani, Bosnia and Herzegovina, observers mark 33 years since HVO attacks that resulted in the deaths of nine civilians, including three children, and the capture of members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In Croatia, the 31st anniversary of the Grubori massacre near Knin is being observed. On August 25, 1995, members of the Lučko Anti-Terrorist Unit killed six Serbian civilians and burned 21 houses during a military operation. According to the Documentation and Information Center Veritas, the victims included elderly individuals such as 90-year-old Marija Grubor. While eight members of the Croatian military and police were prosecuted, all were acquitted due to a lack of evidence. The report notes that initial attempts to frame the incident as an armed conflict with paramilitary groups were disrupted by UN footage showing the actual destruction.
