Serbian courts set July war‑crimes trials for Croatian pilots and JNA officials
On 7 July 2026 the Zagreb District Court began a war‑crimes trial against former JNA General Ljubomir Bajić and five other officials for the 1991 attack on Banski Dvor. The case, opened nearly 35 years after the incident, faces procedural delays, including the absence of key witnesses.
A day later, on 8 July 2026, the Belgrade Higher Court's War Crimes Division scheduled the trial of four Croatian pilots—Mikac, Radulj, Jelenić and Borović—for the alleged unlawful attack on a Serbian refugee convoy at Petrovača in August 1995. The hearing was postponed to September owing to similar evidentiary challenges and defence arguments.
Both proceedings illustrate the ongoing legal battles over conflicts from the 1990s, with each court confronting complex evidence, cross‑border witness issues, and political sensitivities between Serbia and Croatia.
