Balkans experience extreme heat, heavy rain and strong winds
In Croatia's Dalmatia region, a series of intense thunderstorms struck over the weekend, bringing gusts up to 125 km/h in Šibenik and record rainfall of 41 L/m² in Rivanj. The storms featured rare asperitas clouds and produced temperatures ranging from 29 °C to 32 °C, with forecasts calling for continued warm days of 30 °C‑37 °C and occasional showers.
In neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday helped extinguish multiple forest fires in Herzegovina, especially around Mostar, after a recent heat wave that pushed temperatures to the upper 30s. Meteorologists note that while the rain brought relief, a gradual warming trend is expected, though not to the “scorching” levels seen at the end of June. Forecasts predict sunny to partly cloudy conditions with daytime highs between 25 °C and 38 °C across the country.
