Balkans political rhetoric inflames ethnic tensions in Bosnia and fuels nationalist debate in Croatian football

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Haris Zahiragić compared the town of Stolac to a South‑African apartheid system, arguing that problems in towns such as Bugojno, Travnik, Kakanj, Zenica and Konjic stem from the political influence of the self‑declared “Herceg‑Bosna”. He linked these issues to the alleged war‑crime suspect Dževad Agić’s visit to workers in Mostar, warning that without removing these “political residues” Croat‑Bosniak relations will not improve.

In Croatia, a former sports editor and commentators criticized what they described as a “Srbo‑Communist” narrative that undermines Croatian achievements.
