Balkans push legal reforms: Albania updates civil code, Macedonia seeks diaspora voting changes

In Albania, the parliamentary group leader Taulant Balla presented a draft law amending the Civil Code to align with European Union directives on product liability and delayed payments, citing its importance for Albania's EU accession process. The proposal aims to clarify rules on defective products, strengthen consumer protection and address business concerns over payment delays.

In North Macedonia, Digital Transformation Minister Stefan Andonovski expressed disappointment that amendments to the Electoral Code, intended to simplify voting for the diaspora, were not approved. He argued that the current system hinders the constitutional voting rights of citizens abroad and called for renewed discussions to find a solution.
