Balkans report mixed road‑transport trends in early 2026

In the first half of 2026 Serbia registered 22,155 new passenger and light commercial vehicles, a 17.7% increase over the same period in 2025. Passenger‑car registrations reached 19,515, up 18.5%, with Skoda leading sales (3,967 cars) followed by Toyota and Volkswagen. Hybrid models were the most common, accounting for 43.6% of the market, while fully electric cars grew 232% year‑on‑year.

Meanwhile, the Republika Srpska entity of Bosnia‑Herzegovina recorded 6,934 traffic accidents in the same period, resulting in 45 deaths and 244 serious injuries. Accident numbers rose 17% versus 2025, though fatalities fell 10%. Alcohol‑influenced driving contributed to 640 crashes, and material damage increased by 20.6%, affecting 5,766 vehicles.
