Balıkesir expands agricultural infrastructure and economic cooperation

In Balıkesir, Turkey, new agricultural infrastructure and economic discussions have taken center stage. The opening of a licensed warehouse by BTB LİDAŞ, a subsidiary of the Balıkesir Commodity Exchange, marks a significant step for local producers. Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Akın emphasized that licensed warehousing will allow farmers to preserve the value of their products and avoid selling below market value during harvest periods.

During the event, which included TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, discussions also focused on regional economic development. At a consultative meeting for chamber and exchange members, Erdek Chamber of Commerce representatives presented the economic and tourism needs of Erdek, specifically regarding the olive oil and tourism sectors.

Hisarcıklıoğlu highlighted Balıkesir’s status as a brand city in tourism, industry, agriculture, and livestock, noting that major transportation investments like the Osmangazi and 1915 Çanakkale bridges have increased the region's investment appeal. He also noted Turkey's strong agricultural position, stating the country ranks first in Europe and seventh globally in agricultural production.
