Balıkesir implements agricultural subsidies for livestock and dairy producers
Agricultural support projects in Balıkesir, Turkey, are providing subsidies to local producers to modernize livestock and dairy operations.
Under the “Small Ruminant Locked Feeder System Dissemination Project” led by the Balıkesir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, 85 producers received locked feeder systems with a 70% grant. The initiative aims to reduce production costs and prevent feed waste. Dr. Hüseyin Düzgün, the Provincial Director, emphasized Balıkesir’s strategic importance as a major livestock hub in Turkey.
In a separate initiative to strengthen the cold chain, the Çavuşlu Village Agricultural Development Cooperative received 14 milk cooling tanks through a 50% grant. The tanks, with capacities ranging from 300 to 500 liters, allow approximately 6.5 tons of milk produced daily to be cooled immediately at the source. This system prevents bacterial growth and quality loss while eliminating the need for collection vehicles to visit farms twice a day, thereby reducing transportation costs and saving time for producers.
