Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality hosts urban transformation conference

Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality organized a conference titled ‘Urban Transformation Problems and Solution Proposals’ to address the legal, planning, and implementation challenges of urban renewal. Led by Mayor Ahmet Akın, the event focused on conducting transformation works based on scientific data and urban planning principles.

Moderated by Turgay Gültekin, head of the Urban Transformation Commission of the TMMOB Chamber of Survey and Cadastre Engineers, the panel featured legal and urban experts. Discussions centered on land share-based construction contracts, the role of the administration, and the protection of property owners' rights. Experts identified issues such as ambiguous contract terms, communication gaps between owners and authorities, and a lack of transparency in planning decisions.

The conference, held at the Salih Tozan Cultural Center, included representatives from the Chamber of Civil Engineers, the Chamber of Architects, academics, and industry professionals. Participants emphasized the need to strengthen consensus processes and improve the applicability of legal norms to ensure a more accurate, fair, and transparent transformation process.
