Bally Bagayoko warns of far-right rise after Senate election results

Bally Bagayoko, the LFI mayor of Saint-Denis, has expressed deep concern regarding the results of the September 27 senatorial elections. He characterized the progress of the Rassemblement National (RN) as a ‘new stage’ in the party's political establishment.

Following the election, the RN has reached the necessary number of elected officials to potentially form a group in the Senate, alongside allies from Eric Ciotti's UDR. Bagayoko criticized the indirect voting method used for senators, which relies on a college of local elected officials, and called for accountability regarding the political choices made by those officials.

Looking toward the 2027 presidential election, Bagayoko called for a strong mobilization of the left, positioning Jean-Luc Mélenchon as a candidate capable of leading a ‘rupture left’ to prevent the far-right from gaining further power.
