Balneário Camboriú announces 8,000 affordable housing units

The city of Balneário Camboriú has introduced 'Morar BC', a new housing program designed to provide up to 8,000 affordable housing units for low- and middle-income families. The initiative was presented during a public hearing at the City Council as part of a Consortia Urban Operation (OUC) that combines public and private investments.

The program aims to address the challenges posed by the city's rapid real estate appreciation, which has made it difficult for many workers and residents to remain in the municipality. By increasing local housing availability, officials hope to reduce the need for residents to live in neighboring cities, thereby easing pressure on regional infrastructure and reducing daily commutes.

The construction is planned in stages between 2027 and 2032. The first phase is expected to deliver 2,000 units during 2027 and 2028, followed by 3,000 units between 2029 and 2030, and a final 3,000 units in the subsequent two years. Mayor Juliana Pavan emphasized that the program seeks to ensure that those who contribute to the city's growth have the opportunity to live there.
