Balneário Camboriú blocks 42‑storey tower and launches avenue makeover

The municipality of Balneário Camboriú has halted a proposed 42‑storey, 145‑metre skyscraper by declaring the land a public utility and expropriating the airspace above it. A decree limits building height at the site to 24.5 m and the city will compensate the developer for the lost construction potential.

At the same time, the city announced the start of urban‑planning studies to requalify Avenida Brasil and revamp the North and South Pontais in the central beachfront area. New committees of officials, experts and civil‑society representatives will oversee the projects, which aim to improve mobility, accessibility, landscaping and public‑space connectivity.

The measures are part of a broader revision of the municipal master plan intended to guide Balneário Camboriú’s future growth and tourism development.
