Balneário Camboriú blocks stretch of Avenida Atlântica for upgrades, enacts new beach vendor law

From Monday, 22 March, a 150‑metre section of Avenida Atlântica between the 4000 and 3950 markers will be closed to vehicle traffic while the municipality installs drainage, sewage and water‑supply connections beneath future pedestrian over‑passes. The works are part of the second phase of the Barra Sul re‑urbanisation project, with an estimated investment of more than R$ 31 million and execution by FJ Construtora. Traffic will be detoured via Rua 4100 and Avenida Normando Tedesco, returning to the avenue at Rua 3920, and municipal traffic agents will monitor the site.

On 17 March, Mayor Juliana Pavan signed municipal law No. 5.277/2026 that standardises the regulation of beach‑side street vendors. The new rules reduce the licence fee to two municipal fiscal units (about R$ 902), create a uniform set of vendor categories, reserve 5 % of licences for people with disabilities, and set operating hours from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., extendable for special events. The legislation also defines equipment size limits and emphasises the cultural role of vendors on the city’s beaches.
