Balneário Camboriú rescuers save dog from underground gallery

A small dog was rescued from an underground macro-drainage gallery on the central beach of Balneário Camboriú, Santa Catarina, on Sunday morning. The animal fell through an opening in the sand near Avenida Atlântica into a structure approximately 1.70 meters deep.

Lifeguards and firefighters conducted a search inside the gallery, which contained water and a light current moving south. After about 10 minutes of searching with flashlights, rescuers located the dog approximately 60 meters away from the entry point. The animal was conscious but exhausted, showing difficulty breathing and weak movements.

The dog was brought back to the surface using a ladder and received immediate care from bystanders and its owner, a veterinarian, to stabilize its temperature. Following the incident, authorities reinforced the closure of the opening to prevent further accidents.
