Balsas police investigate discovery of human remains

Civil Police investigators are examining the discovery of human remains in a rural area of Balsas, Maranhão. The remains, which include a skull and spinal column, were found by residents in dense vegetation approximately 2 kilometers from the city center.

The remains have been sent to the Medical Legal Institute (IML) in Imperatriz for forensic anthropological examinations. These tests aim to determine the sex, estimated age, and any signs of violence. Authorities may also conduct DNA analysis to compare the remains against official databases of missing persons to identify the victim.
