Baltic Sea bathing sites in Poland remain mostly open

Current conditions at Baltic Sea bathing sites in Poland show that most coastal areas remain open for swimming, with white flags displayed in the Pomeranian and West Pomeranian voivodeships. Restrictions are currently limited to two inland locations: Stepnica on the Szczecin Lagoon due to cyanobacteria blooms, and Chmielno in the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

While cyanobacteria are a common cause for water access bans, closures can also result from high waves or strong currents. Regarding broader water quality, a report from the European Environment Agency noted that Poland has a high number of unclassified bathing sites. This is largely because many sites were recently opened and require several years of monitoring data before they can be officially categorized under European standards, rather than necessarily indicating poor water quality.
