Baltic Sea storm triggers widespread swimming bans in Poland

Severe weather conditions and high waves have led to widespread swimming bans across the Polish Baltic coast. Red flags are flying at numerous seaside resorts in the West Pomeranian and Pomeranian voivodeships, including Świnoujście, Międzyzdroje, Kołobrzeg, Władysławowo, and Jastarnia.

According to the Main Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS), the bans are primarily due to waves exceeding 0.7 meters and dangerous currents. In addition to the storm conditions, the bathing area in Darłówko Wschodnie has been closed due to microbiological contamination, specifically exceeding limits for Escherichia coli bacteria.

Lifeguards and authorities are urging tourists to strictly follow all signage and instructions, as sea conditions can change rapidly. While some areas like Grzybowo and Mielno remain open, the storm has caused significant disruption for vacationers during the peak summer season.
