Baltica 2 offshore wind farm completes monopile installation
Van Oord has completed the installation of 111 monopile foundations for the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in the Polish Baltic Sea. The installation campaign, which began in May, included 107 monopiles for wind turbines and four foundations for offshore substations.
The monopiles, supplied by EEW Special Pipe Constructions and Steelwind Nordenham, reach lengths of up to 100 metres and weigh approximately 1,900 tonnes each. The project was executed using the installation vessels Svanen and Aeolus to maintain efficiency and keep the campaign on schedule.
Developed jointly by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Ørsted, the Baltica 2 project is located approximately 40 kilometres off the Polish coast near Ustka. Once operational in 2027, it is expected to be Poland’s largest offshore wind farm, providing electricity equivalent to the annual demand of roughly 2.5 million households. The farm will feature 107 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW turbines.
