Baltimore Bridge Collapse Settlements Exceed $2.5 B Across 30+ Claims

Grace Ocean and Synergy Marine have settled wrongful‑death suits with the families of the six construction workers killed when the cargo ship Dali struck Baltimore’s Key Bridge on March 26. The settlements are part of more than 30 agreements reached by May 29, covering workers’ compensation reimbursements, personal‑injury claims and cargo losses.

The companies invoked the 1851 Limitation of Liability Act, which caps liability at the ship’s $44 million value, yet they have already paid $2.5 billion to the state of Maryland and $102 million to the federal government. Justice James K. Bredar has been asked to postpone the civil trial scheduled to begin, while criminal charges against Synergy Marine remain pending. Remaining disputes include claims by Baltimore city and county for public economic damages and litigation involving the shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries.
