Mid-Atlantic weather shifts from record heat to storms and frost

The Mid-Atlantic region is experiencing significant weather volatility following record-breaking heat. In Baltimore, temperatures reached a record 88 degrees at BWI Marshall Airport on Wednesday, a sharp contrast to the upcoming forecast.

A cold front is expected to bring a dramatic shift, including evening thunderstorms, gusty winds, and a sharp temperature drop. Forecasters have designated Friday and Saturday as First Alert Weather Days due to the risk of severe storms and wind gusts potentially reaching 40 mph.

Following the storms, a significant cooldown is anticipated. Weekend highs are expected to fall into the 50s, with overnight lows dipping into the 30s. Widespread frost is possible across Maryland by Sunday morning. In the Washington, D.C. area, similar patterns are expected with warm temperatures in the low 80s on Friday followed by a weekend chill.
