Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman placed on 10‑day injured list

Baltimore’s three‑time All‑Star catcher Adley Rutschman was moved to the 10‑day injured list on Monday with left wrist inflammation, a move applied retroactively to Sunday. Rutschman, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 draft, is batting .251 with eight home runs, 19 doubles and 47 RBIs in 67 games this season.

Backup catcher Samuel Basallo left Sunday’s 5‑2 win over the Astros with right‑shoulder discomfort and manager Craig Albernaz listed him as “day‑to‑day.” Sam Huff will start the upcoming game against the Boston Red Sox. The Orioles also promoted catcher Chadwick Tromp from Triple‑A Norfolk and designated outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. for assignment.
