Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman placed on 7‑day concussion list

Baltimore placed catcher Adley Rutschman on the seven‑day concussion injured list after a throw from Seattle shortstop Colt Emerson struck his head in the ninth inning of the Orioles’ 3‑0 loss to the Mariners on June 18. The move, retroactive to June 19, marks Rutschman’s second IL stint this season following an earlier left‑ankle inflammation.

Rutschman, 28, will be eligible to return on June 26. In his absence the Orioles recalled outfielder Michael Siani from Triple‑A Norfolk and promoted rookie catcher Samuel Basallo to take over primary catching duties. The team seeks to rebound as it prepares to face the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Through 54 games this season Rutschman was batting .254 with eight home runs and 40 RBIs, and his defensive value had contributed 1.9 fWAR. His injury removes a key offensive and defensive contributor from a lineup that sits near the American League wild‑card race.
