Baltimore Orioles designate Albert Suárez for assignment

The Baltimore Orioles have designated right-handed pitcher Albert Suárez for assignment to create roster space for the recall of Anthony Nunez from Triple-A Norfolk.

Suárez, 36, has served as a swingman for the team, absorbing 55 innings over 25 appearances this season with a 3.93 ERA. The move is attributed to workload management, as Suárez has pitched in three of the last five days. This transaction marks the fourth time during the 2026 season that the Orioles have designated Suárez for assignment.

Because Suárez has over three years of MLB service time, he holds the right to reject an outright assignment to the minor leagues in favor of free agency. Given his history with the organization, he may elect free agency and subsequently re-sign with the Orioles on a minor league contract.
