Pete Alonso named Most Valuable Oriole after 40-homer season
Pete Alonso has been unanimously voted the 2026 Most Valuable Oriole following a standout season in which he hit 43 home runs and recorded 113 RBIs. Alonso, who joined Baltimore on a five-year, $155 million contract, became the 171st player in MLB history to reach 300 career home runs.
In a recent doubleheader against the New York Yankees, Alonso led the Orioles to a 10-2 victory in the first game, hitting two home runs, including a 471-foot blast. However, the Orioles lost the second game 6-3, a result that effectively ended their postseason aspirations as the White Sox clinched the final wild-card spot.
The Yankees split the doubleheader, securing the nightcap win behind a two-run double from Anthony Volpe. Volpe, who made his first career appearance at third base during the first game, returned to shortstop for the second game to help secure the victory.
