Baltimore security guards strike against Abacus Corporation

Security guards patrolling Baltimore’s Harbor East neighborhood conducted their second unfair labor practice strike of the year on Friday, August 21, 2026. The workers, who are organizing with the Service Employees International Union 32BJ, are protesting against the Abacus Corporation.

The union has filed seven unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board. These charges include allegations that the company retaliated against workers for legally protected union activities by demoting and terminating employees. Additionally, workers claim the company instituted an illegal rule forbidding them from speaking to the press regarding their working conditions and employment terms.

Striking employees have cited concerns regarding workplace safety, inadequate health care, and a lack of support following violent confrontations. Abacus Corporation has denied the allegations, stating there is ‘zero truth’ to the claims regarding press restrictions and asserting that the walkout will not affect their ability to serve clients.
